The Design Process

1. Introduction

You come to us with your project. It is best to have physical samples of what you are packaging from the get-go so we can design around that. Maybe you already have packaging and are just looking to find a more cost-effective design, or maybe this is a new product that has never been packaged before.

2. Choosing a Direction

We will typically present 2-4 different initial directions for you to review. Typically, this includes a range from the most bare-bones option that does the job and saves on cost, to more customized designs that will wow your customers through high-quality materials.

3. Scope of Work

Once a general direction has been chosen (by you!), we will prepare a Scope of Work document for you that is unique to your project. This outlines all deliverables, costs, tooling required, freight options, and most importantly, the project timeline we are proposing.

4. Blank Prototypes

It is time for the first round of prototypes! At this stage, prototypes are generally blank (unprinted) so we can focus on locking in the structure, dimensions, etc. first. If you are local to the Bay Area, we like to review these with you in person. Otherwise, we will ship you the prototypes and we can review via video call.

5. Iterations

Depending on the complexity of your project, one round of blank prototypes may be enough, or you may need 5 rounds! Only once the blank samples have been approved by all stakeholders will we move forward with Golden Samples.

6. Golden Samples

Golden Samples are meant to be the closest representation of the final product possible. Sometimes tooling is required at this stage, so it can take a few weeks to get your Golden Samples. Once you approve the Golden Samples, we are ready to start production.
